 Standard Questions:

1.    When did you start thinking about Christmas?
Flora, my seven year old, starts talking about Christmas just after New Year. I try to block it out until at least November though!

2.    What has been your most memorable Christmas present to date (good or bad!)? My husband bought me the most beautiful long red coat one year. I absolutely adored it but then I got pregnant and it wouldn’t fit. And then we moved to the country and the hem kept getting muddy. So now it hangs forlornly in my wardrobe 😞

3.    Do you have any Christmas Traditions? Advent Calendar - we have a lovely felt Advent Calendar that the Christmas Fairy tops up with a single Terry’s Chocolate Orange segment in each slot every night after Flora’s bedtime. And it’s amazing how early she gets up during December now.Scotch and mince pie for Santa, carrots for Rudolph - when I was Flora’s age, I used to leave a pack of ten John Player & Sons cigarettes out for Santa as well. Mysteriously, they always disappeared, even though my mother didn’t smoke and my father was a confirmed roll up man.

4.    What is the greatest Christmas film of them all? “It’s a Wonderful Life” is just the classic Christmas movie (very dark in places), it’s never been bettered. Although I do have a soft spot for “The Nightmare Before Christmas” too.
5.    You have an empty seat at your table on Christmas Day – who do you invite and why? Can be absolutely anyone! Helen Mirren. I absolutely adore her, I think she’s the most beautiful, sexy, funny, intelligent, kick ass role model and I bet she’d have a galaxy of funny stories to share.
6.    Where in your house does your Christmas Tree go each year? It goes in our conservatory, which is icy cold in Winter so there’s minimal needle drop. Also so the cats don’t climb it and pull it over …
7.    Name the top 3 songs on your Christmas Party Playlist. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Frank SinatraSanta Baby – Eartha KittBaby It’s Cold Outside – Tom Jones & Cerys Matthews
8.    Who is the hardest person you’ve ever had to buy a Christmas present for? My (now ex – yay!) boss. We used to run a Secret Santa but I dreaded picking him because he was so fussy and if he didn’t like something he made it very obvious.
9.    When do you eat your Christmas Dinner, and what is on the menu? Usually about 1.00pm so we can (in theory) sleep in the afternoon after being woken up at 5.00am by Flora. We follow a Jamie Oliver recipe for roast beef in Parma ham, plus all the trimmings: pigs in blankets, stuffing, sprouts and chestnuts, honey glazed parsnips. None of us like Christmas pudding so we have Christmas pudding flavoured ice cream instead.
1.    What’s your favourite Christmas quote? Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more!” The Grinch. I wish more people subscribed to this mantra, there’s always so much tat sold at Christmas.
2.    Are you a wrapping paper person, or boxes and bags? Or are you a mix? I’m a wrapping paper person although the later it gets on Christmas Eve, the more bags come out, haha!
3.    What makes Christmas so special to you? I know this sounds sappy but I have to say being with Flora and Alan (and our three cats).  Since having Flora, Christmas has taken on a whole new special kind of happiness, and it’s one I hope we can continue to enjoy for a good few years to come, before she mutates into a stroppy teenager …

My questions:

1.       What’s the one thing that always means Christmas to you?
2.       Describe your typical Christmas Eve.
