 Standard Questions:

1.    When did you start thinking about Christmas? I refuse to do anything Christmas related before Remembrance Day, but as soon as it is over it’s fair game! This year the Christmas tree came out of storage on November 12th ready to be put up!

2.    What has been your most memorable Christmas present to date (good or bad!)?
When I was in high school I was getting prepared to go to school for music. I played the saxophone, and knew that somehow I needed to come up with the funds to purchase a saxophone myself. The year that my father passed away, his side of the family decided to forgo our usual Christmas giving, keeping our usual dinner together but without all the gift exchanges. What I didn’t know was that the family took the money that they would have spent on their Christmas gifts that year and put it all together so that I would be able to get an alto saxophone. I still own that sax, and play on it anytime I’m playing alto! (I now teach music and continue to perform as a musician myself)

3.    Do you have any Christmas Traditions?
Each year my husband and I have a similar routine surrounding Christmas. Christmas Eve is spent at his mother’s house, celebrating with this family (which isn’t far from our house). We then get ready and start the drive up to visit my family on Christmas morning, both the pups in the Jeep with us. The roads are always totally bear, and we stop somewhere for hot chocolate along the way, listening to Christmas music the whole trip. It’s a special period of time for my husband and I to spend together each year.

4.    What is the greatest Christmas film of them all? The Nightmare Before Christmas! That counts right? I totally believe it is both a Halloween movie and a Christmas movie, and therefore it counts! After all – it does include Santa Claus!

5.    You have an empty seat at your table on Christmas Day – who do you invite and why? Can be absolutely anyone!
Harry Carney, well known jazz player from the Big Band period. He played in Duke Ellington’s band for 45 years, and is THE best baritone sax player in history in my opinion! I am IN LOVE with his paying and would love to have the opportunity to pick his brain for an evening! I’m not sure how much eating we would be doing though…. We’d be distracted being music geeks lol!

6.    Where in your house does your Christmas Tree go each year? In the living room. Regardless of which house we’ve lived in I wanted to make sure that it was in the living room because I like to be able to relax and just watch the tree when I’m getting into the Christmas spirit. Plus, I believe I should be able to see the tree when watching Christmas movies, unless it is Christmas movies in bed. Then I can make an exception.

7.    Name the top 3 songs on your Christmas Party Playlist. Ooo, Ok so I’m going to go with the obvious way of determining this and literally look at my Christmas playlists and see which songs have been listened to the most often…'Making Christmas’ by Rise Against'Mistress for Christmas’ by Halestorm'We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ by Relient K
8.    Who is the hardest person you’ve ever had to buy a Christmas present for? My little brother is by FAR the hardest person to shop for. The bugger goes out and buys everything the second he even considers that he wants it, so there’s no listening for him to mention something. I have had conversations with his girlfriend and with our mother about it, and they both agree how hard he is to shop for!

9.    When do you eat your Christmas Dinner, and what is on the menu? Christmas dinner happens a few times in my world. First, the marching band that I am an instructor with has a big potluck dinner with all the musicians across all levels. It’s got a little bit of everything, and throughout the meal each group in the band (we have beginner/intermediate classes as well as the senior band that performs on parade) performs for everyone else. It’s a ton of fun. Then Christmas Eve is Christmas with my husband’s side of the family. The family orders pizza and we all bring little finger foods and sweets. Finally, we go north and do Christmas dinner with my side of the family which is usually more of a traditional turkey dinner, with a ton off different veggie type options and sides.
1.    What’s your favourite Christmas quote?
his is a quote from The Nightmare Before Christmas that I love because it always brings a smile to my face:“And on a dark cold night, under full moonlight, he flies into the fog like a vulture in the sky!”
2.    Are you a wrapping paper person, or boxes and bags? Or are you a mix? I’m a mix, it all depends on what I am wrapping. I prefer to do wrapping paper personally but there are some things I just couldn’t be bothered to take the time to figure out how to wrap properly… Call it a lack patience hahaha! In those cases, I turn to gift boxes and bags to make it easier.
3.    What makes Christmas so special to you? It’s all about the time spent with your loved ones and people getting together to enjoy one another’s company. For example: the energy that you get performing in Christmas parades comes 100% from the joy and happiness of everyone who is there to watch the parade, the smiles on kids’ faces and the fun that ‘older kids’ (aka adults) have reconnecting with their inner child. It’s that energy – that’s what Christmas is all about to me!

My questions:

What is your favourite thing to eat at Christmas?
What’s your favourite part of Christmas Day?

3.      Amanda @ Poppyseeder
 Cassie @ Zombie Goddess Beauty

I don’t actually own a Christmas jumper (I know, I know, shame…) I am currently looking at buying a really cute one that says, ‘Have Yourself a Creepy Lil Christmas’ with skulls and stuff so I may have one later this year, but for now no luck SO…

Instead I am going to share a picture that screams the Christmas season to me. This is myself (in black) with the Drum Major of the band (the other adult in the picture) and a bunch of our band kids following one of the Christmas parades last year:
